Professor Architect, Shraga Kirshner

Architect, Professor Shraga Kirshner is a Technion graduate with a master's degree in architecture and town planning. Currently, Shraga serves as a Shenkar faculty member researcher of cognitive knowledge, design computation, and development in the implementation of sustainability technologies. His academic concept is the development of colleges as fields of applied research
through advanced graduate degrees in knowledge in engineering, design, and art. Perceiving the academic campus as a habitat for knowledge creation and intellectual property.

In 2003, Professor Kirshner founded and developed the department of interior - building & environment at Shenkar, and due to this scholar initiative, he was appointed as Associate
Professor. This unique department, known for its international workshops and conferences conducted and imparted a new media creative environment for all fields of design and architecture
at the national level. The mission of the department is to promote architectural knowledge under the educational principles of:

  • Creating architectural and design knowledge base to educate for a progressive career in the Built Environment Design

  • Identifying design academic knowledge as a research field which promotes professional ethics in design and architecture

  • Academic perception of technology as a research tool of the designer

From a personal academic perspective, Prof. Kirshner is active, to establish research centers for the
development of a methodology for the implementation of digital media as innovative design fabrication processes, cutting edge research challenges though promoting colleges in Israel as a
the focus for applied research. Prof. Kirshner established and directed the Sammy Sagol 3D Center for
digital modeling fabrication; In 2012 as a scholar, together with Prof. Samuel Kenig, Shraga founded Jacob Rozen Institute of Sustainable Research Institute of Design & Technologies at
Shenkar that he managed until 2015. Prof. Kirshner is founder of three of Rozen Institute's labs:

  • MoDocLab - documentation & modeling

  • The Gazit Globe SenseAble MocapLab - motion capture

  • The ArtLab3D - digitizing cultural artifacts

The success of Rozen institute in leading Team Israel for the Solar Decathlon China 2013 Competition, and heading the Masada Project, is a manifestation of Rozen Institute special spirit
and an interdisciplinary approach to technology design and art.
